Other Help Topics :: lilo config?
for no reason my laptop seems to have changed its display mode by itself after months of satisfactory DSL usage
. the first thing i tried was xsetup.sh, but the 800x600 @ 24bit color mode that i select from there isnt even readable.
so next i looked at the vga bootcodes (i believe they are called), and found that i need to use "vga=789" somewhere. i am using the lilo bootloader .everything looks fine when lilo is doing its thin. as soon as i log on to either the DSL or ROOT acounts it uses the modes i select from xsetup for the respective accounts.
i had a look at etc/lilo.conf (might be a different extension on the file) just to see if maybe i could stick "vga=789" there. at the top i saw "vga=789" was already there.
pretty much what i need to know is how do i tell it to use the vga code when i have dsl already installed.
sorry if this is confusing, but i am tired of trying ti get this to work again
You don't mention which type of install.
We only know that you are using lilo boot loader.
But maybe this will help
i installed from a livecd (not sure what type that is called).
i tried adding "vga=789" to the append portion of lilo.conf, when i ran lilo it said i couldnt use "vga=", so i took that all out, but i did try adding "fb800x600",which did nothing at all.
i put DSL on a usb and (using the floppy boot trick) got it to start up. i want to upgrade to 3.2 (currently using 3.1), but i want to make sure that i can actually mke out what is on screen
. anyways, running from USB is giving me the same exact problems, no matter what boot commands i send it. and no matter what xsetup optons i choose.
this is puzzling. please help
