my french keyboard doesn't work well : cannot use the special letters (e, a with signs above).

i'm trying to install gimp too, and cannot because "XML parser perl" required
I'm rather new to linux
any rather easy solution

What keyboard did you choose?
What version of gimp did you try to load?
There is a gtk1 and a gtk2 version of gimp.

i've tried the FR-latin9, wich is supposed to be the good one
i've tried the 2.2.13 gimp, my problem is to get a french version....
