HD Install :: IBM PS/2 model 95



Using Slackware boot disks I can get the drives mounted, but I'm not sure how to initiate the install without the boot disk.  Is there a way I can use slack's MCA SCSI driver on the DSL boot disk?

I'm new to linux, so apologies in advance if this question is already covered somewhere.
No, each distro usually has its own kernel version and its own patches/configs - it's better to get one that corresponds to the one you are using.

Are you trying to use a dsl bootfloppy+cd combo?  What are you trying to do here?
If the cd device in question is that ibm mca scsi device, and the bootfloppy does not detect it, you may have to add the above file to the bootfloppy's [ minitrt24.gz > minitrt24 > modules > scsi ] directory

You are correct in what I'm trying to do.  I'm trying to install DSL on my ps/2 via a boot disk and cdrom.  The basic boot disk won't detect the cdrom (or hds for that matter...) because it's not configured for microchannel scsi. (which should be covered in that ibmmca.o file you referenced)

So now I know that it's possible how do I proceed.  Where is that ibmmca.o file located?  I checked the cd and the ftp site, but as of yet I'm unable to find it.  Second... what do I do with it once I have it?  You left a clear path for where it should be on the boot disk, but I don't see any directories in minitrt24.gz.  Can I just create them and then drop the file in?  Will I need to change any configuration files after that?

Is it possible to do these things on a windows box, or do I need to try it from embedded DSL?

The module can be found on the cd ( in the compressed file .../mycd/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX ).
You'll have to extract the .gz and edit/mount the resulting file (similarily to the above).

It's probably easier to do it within some linux environment though (since all the tools are usually already there) - DSL being the fastest way.
There's also some tools for windows that can handle those files... you might find something in the wiki/forums if you choose to go this route.
