Website won't load - Jim2029 - 02-24-2024 Fresh install. Badwolf browser. JavaScript on. Only the title bar will load but the site will stay blank white page. RE: Website won't load - Jim2029 - 03-23-2024 I'm the only one with this issue? RE: Website won't load - John - 03-23-2024 I have seen this on really low powered systems, or when running in Qemu. FWIW, in the next release candidate I am dropping Badwolf and putting in Firefox-ers and the GTK version of NetSurf. Though this may seem redundant, the logic here is that Badwolf is a bit too minimal for general purpose use. FF is very well established, capable, but a bit of a resource hog. NetSurf is pretty good with ram, has a rendering engine that is a cut above Dillo and Links2, but is not HTML5 compatible. Netsurf is good for a lot of websites, but can't do things like stream videos or interact with complex JS pages. Still, NetSurf is very good for interacting with websites like Wikipedia, Slashdot and the like. In my opinion, interacting with the modern, bloated web is the most difficult part of resurrecting old hardware. Machines with 2G (or less) RAM are always going to struggle with that. Just about usable, though, as long as you aren't a tab hoarder like me! RE: Website won't load - meo - 03-25-2024 Have you tried the rc2? I'm running Firefox using the rc2 on a thumb drive. I only have 989 MB of RAM according to Conky. It's not fast but it works. Using a resurrected Asus eeePC 1001PX that I haven't used in several years. When I used it I really used it a lot for many years. The adapter was dead. When the battery died the computer died. I don't know why I didn't replace the adapter before. Curiously the adapter I bought from China didn't come with a power cable. I got the idea that the power cord from my first computer (that twinkled a bit the last time I powered it on) might fit and it worked. So I'm using a strange combo right now. Power cable (from an old Dell Latitude 500mhz), a new adapter, an old netbook and a fairly modern usb drive from PNY (256 GB). I haven't messed with this at all since the last post. I'm using this on a HP DV6000 series laptop. Can't remember the exact model right now, but is AMD based. RE: Website won't load - John - 04-20-2024 Yes, there have been two RCs since your last post. Downloaded the latest from the downloads page, installed. Wifi card is active but no networks are found. I've made no changes to this router in over two years. The original version I downloaded and used when I first made this post on here would find my wifi network, connect and attempt to load a site, well the title bar as the first post says. Same laptop. HP DV6810us. I'm clueless. RE: Website won't load - John - 05-04-2024 Jim, this is puzzling. It is possible that the an updated package broke network-assistant for you. Are you able to connect manually using the method I outlined in this post? https://damnsmalllinux.org/forums/thread-14-post-41.html#pid41 |
