Is it possible to order a CD of the latest and greatest RC for DSL-N? It would be the only way some of us on slow dial-ups could try it.
TIA

I think the answer would be "no." Otherwise, John would have replied by now. I guess he would be reluctant to sell CDs for beta, but I don't know why.
I decided on DSL because I used dialup. It only took half a night to download the entire ISO. I used wget with "--continue", and a persistent redial.
Is there a library near you? They usually have fast internet connections. |

Winter Knight-
Thanks for your reply; I was coming to the same conclusion.
I appreciate the info you included regarding wget. The "continue" and persistent redial features seem like things that will solve a lot of my unsucessful downloads. ( Last night tried d/l RC3 starting at 8:30 and lost connection about 3:30am with 6 hrs to go.) Now all I have to do is figure out how to make them work.
It is my impression that RC3 DSL-N has an email app with more complete features than Sylpheed and a more complete word processor and maybe a printer driver that I can make work and therefore it was worth a try at d/l. Maybe someone can tell me if it is worth the effort or whether I should wait until a final release or maybe someone would sell me a disk of RC3.
Your suggestion about a Library is great - will check it out soon.
Just as an observation, it is little things like these that make the DSL Forums so valuable even tho they might not seem so big to some.
Thanks again- retry3 |
