Is there a way to do a real debian type install as you can do in dsl? |

No. There are many distros that are debian based.
Trying to be Debian means accepting the bloat that comes with it and the package that they dictate to be installed.
If that is your goal, then you will be better served with something else. |

It is a good idea that this feature is NOT supported!
Now everyone has the same version of DSL-N. And there isn't any "unsupported" installations like in DSL... |

OK I thought I would start with DSL-N and the build on some more things that I wanted to have a small quick os. Maybe that can be done with frugal installation? |

Uh, one of the top listed features of DSL is "installs to HD as Debian". Is that no longer a goal? It certainly affects whether I use DSL. DSL gives me a tight little system, and then I can install onto it a few Debian packages I really need and get a really good custom little system-on-CD. |

DSL is NOT DSL-N.
DSL has a dpkg database. With DSL it is a MyDSL extension.
ATM there is no dpkg database for DSL-N
Some users have posted how they have rebuilt a dpkg database and that is cool. The dpkg stuff will be seperate extension and not in the core of DSL-N.
We will gladly host in the user contributed extensions repository any such dpkg database, just as we have done with the the DSL distro. |

OK, sorry. I assumed DSL-N would support whatever DSL did, except with kernel 2.6 and without the rigid size restriction. My bad. |
