User Feedback :: My desktop hang!!!

Hi All,

I am a newbie in DSL, very interested to learn more about the DSL. I have downloaded a bootable CD to begin with DSL on my laptop. However, the system just hang after I saw a penguin and I can do nothing to it.

My concern is as follow:
1) What version shall I use for the DSL bootable CD.
2) What to enter when the DSL just boot up (as mentioned I saw that penguin).

Thanks in advance and appreciate for any advise!!!

You need to know more about your hardware to make it run correctly. Please see the wiki for cheatcodes to help you boot DSL. Let us know what kind of laptop if you continue to have problems.

Hi lucky,

I had download another DSL to try, but still got the same things happened. I saw a penguin and a boot prompt. Then I key in the words "sudo" but nothing happened. After that i key in "startx" the screen went blank and hang down there.

The laptop i am using is Latitude D610 Dell and the spec is as follow:

Dell Latitude D610 Review Unit System Specs

   * Pentium M 760 (2.00Ghz w/ 533Mhz FSB)
   * 512MB (2x256) PC3200-DDR2 (400Mhz)
   * 14.1" SXGA+ (1400x1050 resolution)
   * ATI Mobility Radeon X300 w/ 64MB dedicated RAM
   * Fujitsu 60GB HD (5400RPM)
   * 8x DVD+/-RW (dual layer)
   * Intel Pro 2200 wireless (802.11 b/g)
   * Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet; Conexant 56K modem
   * SigmaTel C-Major audio
   * Extra AC adapter & extra modular battery

Can someone please advise. BTW, I thought DSL bootable CD can be boot and operate on any PC or laptop but this is not the case. I had tried two type of DSL version already but things just don't work.

Can some one please give some advise. Thanks in advance.

I think this is the dell laptop acpi issue - if you search these forums on "acpi AND dell" you should turn up something like this post.

From memory, you could try the boot codes "acpi=off" or "noacpi". You could also try updating the laptops firmware to the latest version on the dell site.
