User Feedback :: How to  config Fluxbox on live CD

Fluxbox is a great window manager. I know tha the latest DSL live CD has a wow desktop with icons. Now we need some configuration done that will stay.

We can simply add dsl files to the root directory and they willl start some apps at boot. Or
One can start them once booted. What i want is to make my key bindings and have them to start at bootup too!
The files in .fluxbox called keys, ini and menu can be modified. We can also add the fbsetbg file into the home directory and then type fbsetbg picturefilename.jpg or whatever and have a nice background of our choice!

I then, want to remove the desktop icons - something i do not care for....No icons at bootup.

How can i do this wiithout remastering but just by  using a CDRW with the DSL ISO?

Type "dsl noicons" at the boot prompt to get rid of the icons.

For the other stuff, you can find the appropriate files and add them to filetool.list and use the backup/restore function to save your settings onto a usb device, the hard disk, or even a floppy.

the MyDSL application called whitebox.dsl is also very powerful at configuring Fluxbox menus and whatnot...give it a shot..you wont be disappointed

All your settings and files/programs can be persistant
thru the backup routine..

And the bsetbg command works just like fbsetbg,
for placing a particular background on screen..
Try " bsetbg -f  /path/to/your/pic.jpg " in a shell
to change your background immediately...

Backing up the /home/dsl/.fluxbox/init file,
and the background image,
( usually stored in home/dsl/.fluxbox/backgrounds )
will save your background selection so the next reboot,
it will be autoloaded upon entering the X desktop.

Thanks SaidinUnleashed,

But i do not want to use anything at all, apart from the CD. NO USB, HDD anything.

Thanks AwPhuch,
I will give this a try. But they need to be part of DSL CD, like adding a dsl extension file to the / In other words, whenever I start my DSL CD, they must be available to me. f this is a file I can copy to the CD boot sector or something, that would be fine. I will try something out and get back.

Thanks ke4nt1,

I did not know this was included! I will try this out!

But no backing up to other devices allowed! It must be entirely and independently from CD!
