User Feedback :: yes! dsl  installed & I am happy!

I'm so happy! After a slight learning curve, I made boot floppies & dsl 1.4 install cd.

The target pc (free!) was rescued from garbage, and bogged down with Win98 + junk. It is a Pentium 75 Mhz, 24 mb ram, with two 800 mb hard disk drives.

I used a lowram boot to get started.  Rest of install went pretty much as instructions said.

DSL is just the trick for this legacy pc ... Win98 was way too slow and bogged down to use. With DSL, this old pc is now usable again. Especially for this unix/c & perl programmer :-)

NICE WORK!!!

Congrats! Are you able to run in X smoothly with 24mb? What amount of swap are you using?
Yes, smooth enough. I used a lowram install so fluxbox is running in a  minimal mode too.

I used 128 meg of swap as recommended.

I picked up a 90mhz pc with 32 meg of ram and a 1.9 gig hd, this afternoon for $20. It had Win98 earlier. Now it is a DSL box ... heh. Same as the other one, I used 128 meg swap for this one also. Full livecd install.  I am writing this from my "new" box, running DSL.

Also I have installed DSL on my trash-old-notebook (P3-500mhz-64MB.RAM-6GB.HD).

X runs very good!!  :-)

I'm not a expert linux user and I hope to learn something more using this small-but-powerful distribution.

Bye everybody!!

PS Many compliments to the DSL-development-team for the great job!!!

I love using DSL on what would otherwise be trash!  I got an old P-I 133, with 32MB of ram.  I wouldn't call it peppy, but it is usable.  I like Links-Hacked for that box, it is a better browser than Dillo, but not nearly as heavy as Opera, or Firefox.
