Other Help Topics :: Desktop Wallpaper

Hi All

How do I change the desktop wallpaper??? Please help.

Thanks
Steve

Open up a terminal window and type "bsetbg -f /path_to_your_background_image"

That should do it.

Hi There

Steve

I am very new to linux as well.  I'm happy to answer what questions I can.  I've spent many hours reading and trying to understand help files and FAQs before this forum came out.  I'm sure that I'm not the only one that's been waiting for this forum to start up.  Now that it's here, I'm surprised how many people have joined.  Over 1200 now!  Now we need to get more people in the IRC channel.
Maybe a simple script could be developed for this?  I think I could come up with a very poor one, but what I think we really want is a "browse for image" selector, not just a "type in the path to your image"?  (Obviously I haven't done much scripting...)

I've had some very rough thoughts on maybe ways of allowing desktop icons to be added / moved / changed as well, but haven't really sat down to nut it out...

Things like these are basics that windoze users get frustrated over when you need to track down coding just to change your desktop / menu / etc., when maybe a few simple scripts could be added to make it a little more user-friendly.  Doesn't need to be drag-and-drop...
