Apps :: Alternatives to CDW CD burning program

Is there an alternative to the CDW program?  I HATE it.  So many operations (like blanking a CD or writing to CD) are prone to hanging for no apparent reason.  The program doesn't make it clear what's going on.  Can anyone here PLEASE point me to a viable alternative?
If you want control, use the lowly programs yourself (mkisofs, cdrecord etc).

Some light alternatives for cdw are bashburn and gcombust. If you want "the" burning app, k3b is in myDSL too, but it's really heavy with all the kde libs.

Forget this.  I'd have to type in all of the little options and the long file names manually every time I need to do something, and having just ONE little thing not quite right will throw the whole thing off and force me to start over.  I don't want to go through all this mumbo jumbo only to get it wrong anyway.

Are bashburn and gcombust available as myDSL extensions?  If not, how do I install them?  What does k3b have that bashburn and gcombust lack?  Can I use k3b without having to switch to KDE?

gcombust is a great program. There used to be a mydsl extension, but I don't see it now....maybe my eyes need work.
I did a Google search, and there is no gcombust MyDSL extension.  How do I install gcombust (or any other program, for that matter) when there is no MyDSL extension available for it?

Is there ANY way I can run K3B without KDE?

I absolutely CANNOT use CDW.  I gave it more than a fair shot to no avail.  Unfortunately, DSL is short on CD burning applications, so I feel stuck.
