USB booting :: Help installing DSL...
I have no idea how to install DSL on a usb flash drive! if someone could give me the instructions, that would be helpful! I know it is probably simple, but please don't flame me for asking! thx
btw: i am using windows srry! (linux machine not working correctly right now)
If you need to install from Windows, search the DSL (or maybe the DSL-N) forums for a post on this - basically you need to download syslinux, (optionally) a HP USB formatting tool and the embedded version of DSL.
Next you format the USB stick, apply syslinux (eg syslinux/win32/syslinux.exe e:) and then unzip embedded DSL and copy the files across (except for the /qemu folder and dsl-linux.sh, qemu-linux-notes.txt & dsl-windows.bat files). Once done, set your BIOS so you can boot from a USB device and you should be in business.
I instal from windows, I did run the HP program, and I did run syslinux (I think that went OK) and downloaded the ISO file of DSL and unzipped it to my USB.
But when I want my BIOS set to boot from my USB I got several options, and they don't work all of them.
I have USB-CDROM, USB-FDD, and 2 others I think.
whitch USB do I need to select and did I do something wrong with the extracting to my USB?
(sorry for my crappy english... never could type it well...)
If syslinux went OK you will have a file named ldlinux.sys in the root directory of your USB stick.
When you say "...downloaded the ISO file of DSL and unzipped it to my USB", I take it you mean that you used an iso mastering tool to get at the files inside the iso? You would need the embedded file of DSL to be able to unzip it.
USB-CD and USB-FD must be to boot from externel drives, what are the names of the other USB BIOS options?
well, i got dsl working, except for one problem. there is no mouse support at all, i have tried ps2 and usb mice, and it didnt make a difference. could u help?
