USB booting :: CD booting?
Is this possible with DSL? I wanna beable to boot off the cd and than use my ipod color 60gig to put linux files on because its fat32 and my system is ntfs. So plan and simple is this possible? Thanks.
BTW a friend told me to come here to start out with linux. I wanna give linux a test drive and possibley use it at school so I can install programs since the admins wont allow that.
EDITED: Sorry for posting in the USB booting section but there was no cd booting section so I figured this would be best place since usb booting is simliar to CD booting being the only differance is it cant write on the CD.
Sure,
Boot from a liveCD.
At the boot prompt, type
" dsl fromhd=/dev/sda1 "
(If your copy of the DSL files are in the first partition of your ipod)
Once it finds the /KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX file on the ipod,
it should continue booting from the device.
Let us know..

How do I make a liveCD? Just download the current ISO for DSL and burn the image to a CD? What files do I need on my ipod? I'm really sorry but this is my first time with linux so I need to ask questions. Thanks
You can read below to learn how to make a bootable CD. It's easy.

I've never used an iPod, however, I don't believe that you would need any files on it prior to installing DSL. But, you should read this:

The documentation is brief, easy to understand, and to the point.
Thanks for the links.
I wanna double check to make sure my hard drives dont get reformated but making a bootable CD will boot dsl off the CD and wont format my harddrives right? Thanks.
