DSL Embedded :: 3 questions
First, the system info:
- XP Pro on a P4 2.5ghz, 512mb ram
- Using DSL embedded v2.4
- System is connected to another linux machine, which is used as a server/router. (LAN IP's are available for DSL to use, but it refuses to do so.)
Now the questions:
1.
Is it possible to have an NTFS swap file?
I realize the answer is very likely "NO", but I had to ask.
2.
I was wondering how i could manage to save my config file onto an NTFS HDD...if that's at all possible.
3.
Is it possible to set up the embedded dsl to use bridged networking? I can't seem to get networking to work without using dhcp (dhcp does work, but it's very unstable...constant stalled downloads).
Any help in these areas would be greatly appreciated.
BTW: any/all point-and-laugh activity by other members is most certainly acceptable and probably deserved.
Hi,
1. ntfs and swap are different things;
2. I guess no, since DSL works with kernel 2.4.26
3. at prompt, type: dsl nodhcp
advice: formate your hd with fat32 for winxp, then you can solve 1 and 2.

Thanks for the info
I'm aware that ntfs and swap are different things....but I am unable to create a dos swap file via dsl's tools menu, since there is no dos-compatible filesystem available.
As for reformatting to use fat32 for XP, I am loathe to use fat32, so i guess I'll either have to find another way or just live with this issue. ;)
Maybe I'll try creating a virtual (fat32) drive and install dsl on it.
Regarding dhcp, thanks for the reminder...can't believe I forgot about that.
If you have space enough, try parted (in the 'system' repository of DSL, in the Internet) in order to resize the space and patition it without touching win xp.
Then reformate and re-partition the avalaible space with cfdisk.
Swap: you need a swap space of twice your RAM.
good luck!
