Networking :: Wireless help
Can anyone help me get my wireless card setup? I am quite new to linux and don't know much about network cards anyway. The card is a D-Link DWL-G520. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!
Sock,
That D-Link card is supported by DSL. I'm using one to post right now.
The easiest way to setup your wifi card is to run 'wlcardconfig' in a terminal window (eg xterm) or select it from the DSL menu:
Right click on the desktop -> System -> Net Setup -> wlcardconfig
Then follow the program and enter your network settings and your almost good to go.
Now run xterm (if your not already), login as root with the 'sudo su' command. Then run 'pump -i ath0' , this should connect the wifi card to your router etc..
Then you can test the connection with the ping command or use a web browser to go to your favourite site.
(Make sure you exit being root)

Well, see, thats the problem. I have no clue what half the stuff on wlcardconfig is. I know the wep encryption key and thats about it.
I don't suppose you could tell me what most of them are? I'm no n00b to computers its just that winblows has corrupted my mind... and does everything for me.
Don't worry I was half expecting that
I'm a M$ user and am getting a little less noobish by the week. For my little wifi network (being served by a wireless router), I only use the 'essid' (name of your wireless network) and the wep key. That should be enough to get you going. As for the other wlcardconfig options, you'll have to search these forums or google them I'm afraid.

Alright. Thanks for the help!
EDIT: Hmmm... It's still not working. I was looking at "prism2" and was wondering if I could use that. It seems pretty simple.
