Networking :: DSL cannot detect dial-up modem

I'm unable to dial-up to the internet

During set up, I tell it to automatically detect the modem, but comes up with nothing and tells me to manually enter the location, so I put it at COM2 (which is what it says on Windows.)

By the way, when I installed this modem on my crappy Windows 98se, I had to also install an emulator ???

Anyways, i'm not sure what other info to provide...

Oh and the modem is a US Robotics 56K PCI Faxmodem model 5660A

I've tried DSL on my friends WindowsXP computer and it also couldn't get the modem to work, So I guess its not the modems. Is there something I have to configure to make them work?
My guess would be that they are win modems.  There are ongoing discussions about win modems and I haven't followed them because I don't have one.  Try doing a search in the forums using the pharse "win AND modem" (without the quotes).
If it has a lucent chipset, it may be supported by DSL2.0.  My winmodem is...well i don't remember the brand name but it is Lucent...DSL2RC1 detects it without trouble and the /dev/modem link automatically points to the correct device.  Using /dev/modem as the device works fine.
ok, I tried DSL2-RC1 and still cannot connect to the modem.

How can I add the proper drivers or something to make it work? I have the Drivers CD for the modem (forWindows).
