Laptops :: Networking not working...
Bear with me as I'm pretty much a complete linux newbie.
I've installed DSL to the hard drive succesfully, and the problem I'm having now is that I can't get online. I've got the laptop plugged in to the router with a cat5, and it should be online, but it's not. When I go to PPPOE setup, it says the "Access Concentrator of my network did not respond." Also, when I hit DHCP and it tries to contact the server, nothing happens. What's wrong? I'm guessing I need new drivers for my network device but thinkwiki says it should be fine, and it's not.
What is the output of:
/sbin/ifconfig
/sbin/route
Well for one it's saying that my MAC is FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF, and the route says "Kernel IP Routing Table" and then gives the labels for the table but nothing else. I'd copy and paste the whole thing but I can't figure out how to mount my flash drive, or save things to a floppy disk =/
Is your network card Pcmcia card or integrated to motherboard? Just last evening installed network to my toshiba satellite pro 440cdt with pcmcia card, i needed to change pcmcia thing to cardbus from my bios, after that network works without any editing.
Oh I'm pretty sure it's mini-pci, on the back of the laptop. Or so Thinkwiki says: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:A22m
By the way, it also says it's been assigned an interrupt of 11 and 0x1400. Rx bytes are 0 and Tx bytes are 0. That's all for eth0, the next catagory is Io and is set in loopback mode, Rx bytes are 688 and Tx bytes are 688 and it's got an IP of 127.0.0.1
