Title: xscreensaver and screen blanking
Post by: mkarcz on January 13, 2015, 05:24:01 AM
Hello,
I started to use xscreensaver to lock my GUI. However once I run xscreensaver daemon, the screen blanking (that worked before in console and GUI modes alike) stops working. The xscreensaver it just runs these screen-saver graphical apps. in a loop and never ever blanks. I think this is because power management is not supported or disabled in BIOS (this is not your standard PC mobo - it is a PC/104 standard industrial PC compatible SBC - Single Board Computer). If this is the case, then I wonder how the console blanking works when xscreensaver daemon is not working and why xscreensaver is disabling the screen blanking? Shouldn't these two processes be independent of each-other?
dsl@pc104:~$ cat /proc/apm
1.16 1.2 0x03 0x01 0xff 0x80 -1% -1 ?

Perhaps you could compile Slock (http://tools.suckless.org/slock/), or maybe even SlimLock (http://joelburget.com/slimlock/) if the dependancies aren't too incompatible. They don't offer their own screenblanking systems, so shuldn't disable ther kernel one.

I guess the xscreensaver blanking settings don't work because your motherboard doesn't spport power management?

The iPhone app disabled Airplay, but you can play movies on your computer and mirror with Apple TV.
But I'm looking forward for the ATV4 app.
