Title: MyDSL Database Download
Post by: DetroitGeek on February 28, 2016, 12:15:43 AM
The MyDSL Browser wants to download a database on first use.  I went through the list of servers in the Mirror List of the control panel and got a couple of servers that seem to give me about half the download and then fail with 'Database check failed......" Any idea what's happening here?

I don't know mych about the MyDSL Browser, but perhaps try manually downloading the package list from:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/damnsmall/mydsl/mydslinfo.bz2

Then replace the "mydslinfo.bz2.<number>" file in /tmp/mydsl/ with the highest number, with the new file. If there aren't any with ".<number>" at the end, just replace the file with the same name. Also best to keep a copy of the old file somewhere just in case.

EDIT: Here's the md5sum of the mydslinfo.bz2 file that I just used the MyDSL browser to successfully download and install from ibiblio.org:
609f91f3cafbe7dec46ecc6d8ad34553
You might want to check it with the file you download, and what is already in your /tmp/mydsl/ directory.

The md5sum of the highest numbered file in /tmp/mydsl is correct. I did a wget, downloaded and overwrote the file just for kicks and the MyDSL Browser still tells me it can't read database mydslinfo.bz2.

Strange, all I can think is that the file permissions might be wrong for some reason. try doing "sudo chmod a+rw mydslinfo*" in the "/tmp/mydsl" directory.

I get the same error as well. I wonder why it can't read.
