If you can get your hands on a USB CD drive, that might be worth a try. I used one to install DSL on a notebook a few years newer than yours. Sadly only to give up thanks to lack of drivers afterwards.
Sadly, the Libretto L5 has exceptionally picky USB boot support, only works with a very small selection of drives that were mostly not sold in the USA. So not really an option.

I actually have all the drivers for it from an old fanforum for the series ^.^'...
2  Damn Small Linux / HD Install / Re: how to install onto a HDD from one machine to put into another on: March 15, 2013, 06:48:16 PM
Hi Mir,
i made this operation several times. As hdd installation ships with an automatic hardware detection (the one on the live-cd), there is no problem doing this! But no luck if you want to try this with Windows (must pay before each install)
Good luck!
Its actually not terribly hard with windows. The trick is not to install on the first machine, but to make the hdd the install media. DOS+WinXP installer on a small partition, or W7 installer on a small partition.
3  Damn Small Linux / HD Install / PXE Install? on: March 15, 2013, 06:32:21 PM
Hey folks,

I've got an old Toshiba Libretto L5... And been trying to get something a little... smoother running on it.

Unfortunately, I don't have the rare USB-bootable drives for it (It was a very picky system about that...) nor any form of PC-Card that's bootable. And doing a hdd swap to install is... not really an option as the hdd is sorta forcaged into the damn thing.

I've managed to PXE install Windows XP and Ubuntu on it before using tftpd32... but am not sure how/if damn small can be set up for this. (Sadly, I installed a far too recent version of Ubuntu, and it reeeealy doesn't like the 800Mhz Crusoe... nothing practical, even installing another os can be done from that.)
Should take good ol DSL pretty snappily I imagine. 512MB ram, 60GB HDD... Radeon Mobile. XD Yes thats the ORIGINAL Radeon Mobile.

Anyone know the steps to setup DSL for PXE Install? From windows, in particular would be nice. I have TFTPD32 around..

Cool -- I think I'll try resuscitating an old Toshiba 70CT mini laptop I have.  It's a Pentium III 90 MHz, 32 MB RAM, and 2 GB hard drive.  Minimal specs, to be sure.  I imagine if DSL works adequately on it I'll be mostly using Dillo.
Wooo! Libretto owners ftw ;P I'm shoving this on the fairly beefier Libretto L5 just to see how well it works. Silly ol Crusoe and 512MB ram. Tho I have the 60GB hdd! (Pretty rare, being 1.8in toshiba abomination)
