16  Damn Small Linux / Release Candidates / Re: New Release Candidate: 4.11rc2 on: September 02, 2014, 03:50:56 PM
Will there be another release?
(This release is getting very old now.)
17  Damn Small Linux / User Feedback / Re: DSL revival? on: September 02, 2014, 03:47:14 PM
I'd like to see a modern version of DSL, with as much backwards compatibility as is possible using todays software & drivers, (i.e. wifi).
I don't know where our DSL leader (John) is with a newer version than 4.11.rc2 - is there any indication elsewhere that I may have missed?
Failing that, let us see how you would like DSL to progress?
18  Damn Small Linux / User Feedback / Re: What does DSL get run on nowadays? on: September 02, 2014, 03:39:05 PM
I've just come back to look at how DSL is getting on, only to find it still stuck in 2012.  Roll Eyes
So, I've added my CPUs into the vote, all P4 & above nowadays.  Wink
19  Damn Small Linux / USB booting / Re: HELP HP N54 Microserver won't boot DSL (Newbie) on: June 13, 2013, 09:59:19 AM
If you are still not happy, there is another very small footprint distro called SliTaz, might be worth your while to take a look.
(It runs 'live' in ram, can be remastered, can be installed.)
20  Damn Small Linux / USB booting / Re: Doesn't boot on: December 12, 2012, 07:27:47 PM
It can't find your kernel; try editing grub commands when you restart your computer; it is probably looking on the wrong disk.
21  Damn Small Linux / User Feedback / Re: Can't "see" a USB stick on: December 12, 2012, 07:16:48 PM
Maybe you have to tell your VM that the other partition is there.

I only use qemu; that requires that I tell it which 'disk' to boot from & tell it any other that I want to be available to that 'disk'.
22  Damn Small Linux / User Feedback / Re: had to switch to DSL to resurrect old desktop on: December 12, 2012, 06:58:16 PM
Firefox will be what is filling up your ram, especially with only 64mb!!!

See if you can work with a 'lighter' browser.

You're welcome.
(Wasn't sure how to report it.)

menuentry "Damn Small Linux (on /dev/sdb8)" --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
        insmod part_msdos
        insmod ext3
        insmod jfs
        set root='(hd0,msdos1)'
      #  search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root 0748915f-7bbe-4450-bf0a-a382d08aee3f
linux /boot/isolinux/linux24  root=/dev/sda1 ro lang=us toram noeject frugal
        initrd  /boot/isolinux/minirt24.gz
In your menuentry you say it is on sdb8 - but in your kernel line you are telling grub to look in sda1 - try changing that to where your DSL is.

biur892u appears to be spamming the site.
26  Damn Small Linux / DSL Embedded / Re: Can't find knoppix file system in Windows HD on: November 28, 2012, 01:29:30 PM
This line might need changing to use MS Windows backslashes instead of the unix forward slashes

try changing this:-  knoppix_dir=/Linux/KNOPPIX

to this :-  knoppix_dir=\Linux\KNOPPIX

(No guarantees.)

Legacy Support is the most common, look for anything usb related, different manufacturers call it different names.
Just look through all options, you may or may not have anything in your BIOS but that seems the most likely cause.
Good luck.

This thread looks a bit old, but
if you open a terminal & type 'ls -C' you will see your files in the directory you are in (probably /home).
Now type in 'ls -C /' & you should see all the folders on your partiton.
If you type 'ls -C /usr/bin' you will see a listing of program names, this is likely to be what you are after.
You might need to type 'ls -C /usr/bin | less' to see them without them rushing off screen.
To run a program type '<program-name> &'  then press return.

Check this free book out, it might help you to learn a bit about Linux.

you may need to change an option in your computers BIOS; legacy support is common.
