I have an old laptop that I thought I'd try DSL on.  I followed this guide: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/loadlin_install.html.

First I put a fresh copy of Dos 6.22 on the 512mb drive.  On the base of the drive I have the two folders C:\isolinux and C:\knoppix.

Quote
        C:\isolinux\linux24
        root=/dev/ram
        rw
        initrd=C:\isolinux\minirt24.gz
        vga=normal
        ramdisk_size=100000
        init=/etc/init
        lang=us
        apm=power-off
        nomce
        noapic
        quiet
        BOOT_IMAGE=knoppix

It starts up but ends with the limited file system:
Accessing DSL image at /dev/hda1.../modules/cloop.o: init_module:
Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.

Again, on c:\knoppix is one file knoppix.  What could I have done wrong?

I've never used Loadlin with DSL, but I notice that the Wiki tutorial says that you should run it from a FAT32 partition while MS-DOS generally formats drives FAT16 by default (I've not used as late a version as 6.22 though, so this may be different in your case). I don't understand why the system would have a problem with FAT16, but that's what the Wiki says so its worth checking if you don't know.
