Protect your brand

Also a quick note on your project's brand. The worse thing that could happen to you if you truly want to earn a living from your open source project is for you to have several knock off projects using the same or similar or derived name as your project. I've seen this many times, where a project ends up on several websites with related projects all competing for the same brand. This is really contrary to all your hard work. If knock offs pop up (and they will because this is OS software) make sure their name is not to be confused with yours. It may be wise to trademark your name -- this way if push comes to shove you have the legal stance on that brand you worked so hard to develop.
