Hi,
I have a mini itx system thats been running dsl 1.5, testing for hardware reliability prior to it being used for an embedded application.

Over the past couple of months we have rarely seen the system stay up for more than about 3 or 4 days. Yes we may well have a hardware issue - but I cant find one - memtest, other distros - that sort of thing seem to show no problems running for days on end.

The only visible failure is that the onboard clock is always reset as though the cmos has been cleared. Yes I have installed a new battery. The old one measures fine.

Is anyone getting huge uptimes out there?

Yes I realise this is a live cd and perhaps not many will be concerned about uptimes longer than a few hours.....

BTW I am just upgrading to dsl2.1b for further testing.

The longest i've had DSL running is a little over 2 days, but i have 3 distros on the same box so i generally reboot at least once a day just to switch.

I just reset this machine yesterday (dsl 1.5 frugal). The last time I reset it was around Thanksgiving time (Late November).  What happens to your machine after three or four days; does it freeze or reset itself?  What are the specs on it? I am intrieged...

Good Luck

Fuzy god,
I have a simple shell script that runs a memory tester and cpuburn capturing the output to a file which then gets emailed via a simple python script, then the process repeats.

I get the emails for about 3-4 days (about 200 iterations) and then nothing. When I go to the machine it doesnt respond to mouse, keyboard nothing, Screen blank.

I powercycle and up she comes - and the date is lost. I reset the date and begin again.

If this were a power outage - we'd know/ Its in a factory full of workers, and when the power came back up it would start emailing again.

Yes I suppose my script could have some mysterious bug - but that doesnt explain total system loss.

This is a VIA SP1300 - which I think is a wonderful bit of hardware, which as I write this is about to complete 24 hours of  memtest86 (same as the script memory test). Once this problem is resolved there will be many more units like this - so the pressure is mounting.

I am begining to become concerned that there is a memory leak - I was heartend by your 60+ day uptime.

There you go - hope I havent left anything out

Are you running fluxbox and kdrive, the tiny X server?
Both are defaults in DSL. This combo does have a memory leak.
You see the posts regarding such here.

Possible solutions:
1. Use jwm instead of fluxbox
2. If you must use fluxbox then try XFree.dsl
3. If you don't need X don't use it. I usually don't use X with servers.
