OK, the good news is, it sounds like you can boot from a CD. I would recommend you go ahead and try the live CD outside of Windows. You can't hurt anything, and it boots up fast and recognizes most hardware. You can get some boot options by pressing the F2 and F3 keys when you boot. Try downloading the isolinux version and burn the .iso file using a Nero, or CDBurnerXP Pro. Don't just copy the .iso to a CD, you need to select from the menu the option that burns the CD image from the .iso file.
