The cursor will change, then drag the cursor around whatever you want to take a shot of (in this case, draw a big box around the screen) and voila.

In order for the import command to work, you'd have to install the imagemagick program (apt-get install imagemagick)

I tried the desktop snapshot thing from the right-click menu, but it never works. =\
