Installed to USB Pendrive HDD install module.
1)
how in the world do i make the entire pendrive writeable?
i get tired of not being able to actually use the silly pendriv4e to save stuff on. having on certain sections of it writeable is stupid really, its my install its my pendrive i want access to the whole thing.
frugal is not it, that doesnt do anything.

2)
after installing it and not using dma frugal or anything else, where and how can i alter the boot options ?

3)
how in the devil do i save all the MyDSL apps i download, i get tired of redownlaoding everything and having to set them all back up. Once you download something it should be there perminently!!!!  not deleted once you reboot the system.
everytime i try to tell it to download to a different location it wont let me cuz i dont have write rights. why the devil did you guys make this thing this way ??
i mean im really tired of redownlaoding everything including synaptic

4)
why are themes the only thing thats ever saved ?

5)
when installing things via synaptic why are they not added to the APP's menu  ??   you have to go to 'Run Command' and then type the command for that program.
most of everything that you download via synaptic is imposible to access once you download it simply because there is no way of knowing what the command is or where its installed to.
6)
how the hell to i login as Root.  i HATE being a limited user.
i am almost always logged into root when i use my other distro's

i love DSL but damn guys its useless to download and install anything becuase it doesnt get saved.
how can i save things so they are there next time i boot.

1. for booting from a usb, your pendrive should be formatted to fat32, which doesn't support user differenciated write permissions, so this is a non-issue.

2. the append line in lilo.conf, or you can do it the better way and install Grub. Then you just add that stuff to the kernel line.

3. put them wherever you have set up to load the mydsl apps from. I use hda2 (mydsl=hda2)

4. because you havent added anything else to filetool.list

5. because DSL is not Debian, and we do not use the same menu structure or creation method. Anything you grab with apt is up to you to add to the menu

6. sudo su

But running as root is BAAAAAD, and in DSL, you will break many things if you run as root. Especially the mydsl system. If you try to install things ar root, you will break it. Do not run as root. Especially do not IRC as root.

3 & 4) These are both related, so i put them together.
The reason nothing you download is saved is because you are running an operating system that is loaded into RAM.  This is one of the basic traits of a liveCD system.  Your files will need to be backed up in order to use them in the future.  The styles are saved probably because home/dsl/.fluxbox/styles is already in filetool.lst (the backup/restore list).  Since they are saved, your backup/restore system is already operational.  Just add the files you want to keep into /home/dsl/filetool.lst.
This subject is covered rather thoroughly in these forums...search for *filetool.lst and backup for more info.

5) Debian packages are not integrated into fluxbox, so they do not automatically add menu items.  With the great variety of window managers available in Linux, it would be silly to try to accomodate all the menu variations.  So as a result of a larger choice, some things are left for the user to take care of.

6) "sudo su"
Running as root all the time, as mentioned frequently, is never a good idea.  It's your choice, but it makes it very easy to destroy your system with the smallest typo.

5.

If you want to have an automatic menu for Debian apps, see this thread:

sudu su
yes i know this and use it allll the time lol

but  but but but....    it doesnt do anything simply becuase your logging into an Xterm not the OS shell itself.
all it does is allow you 'super user' access in an xterm
the file manager 'super user mode' i do use.

so i add sudo su to the extlinux.config file ?
i added dma or rather removed nodma and replaced it with DMA so now i have DMA

i guess i dont understand when i choose to install it... mind you the key word is INSTALL   not LIVE  then why am i restricted to it not saving items within the OS itself.

I have added several items such as gAIM FireFox 1.0 to the filetool.lst and none of them load. can anyone tell me why ?
do i have to actually add mydsl=sdb1 to the config file to it knows ?

My system see's the thumb drive (PNY 256meg) as a hard drive. i do NOT have the option to change it. (MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum w/ 3500+ skt939)
do you think i can do a straight up Hard drive install to the thumb drive instead of doing install to pendrive ?

Lastly

I use xDSL on my xbox using the Loopback install and i @!#$!^^ LOVE IT!!!
its not as robust as GentooX but its so much faster and really all i need is internet and email and chat. so xDSL is flipping sweet.
my xbox is the 128meg modded motherboard so the extra 64meg of ram helps alot.!
the real thing that bugs me about dsl pc and dsl xbox is that when i did the loopback install on my xbox every single thing i download and install is saved automatically.
so it really bugs me why its not installed and saved when i do the pendrive 'hard drive' install.
since both are the same thing, nothing more than a mounted image in a ram drive.
