well, this is my first attempt at any kind of linux so......yeah

heres a few questions

1) i have a usb modem, specifically a sagam f@st 800pr, how do i get it to work if it is possible

2) how do i access my floppy drive, hard drives, ect

3) is there a partition manager thingie that can (saftly) resize and create windows and linux partitions for DSL

that brings me onto my next question

4) can i run windows programs in DSL? if so how?

5) how do i save my settings?

6) i have a epson stylus photo 830 printer, i tried using the printer setup, but i when i click the print button in "writer" nothing happens

7) when i tried to setup my sound card it told me that it isnt supported, any chance that the range of sound cards supported in DSL will be increased in future releases?

im sure i will have more questions soon enough too

well, thanks in advance

edit: where can i buy a writerble cd like the one in the DSL logo? lol  :D

The slit on the side of the screen has icons of floppy drives etc. click on the arrow until you get the device you want, then on the screw to mount it.  Then use emelfm to go to /mnt/hda1 etc.

Edit filetool.lst in the /usr/dsl directory and then use backup/restore

Read the "Starting DSL" page in dillo that opens when you first boot - it has this and other advice.
Search the forum for the printer and in the networking forum for the modem.

The forum also has a search function at the bottom (search from the beginning and newer) to cut down on thousands of questions in one post :-)

You can make it work on a DSL hard disk install, but it requires downloading development stuff, kernel sources and recompiling the kernel.  Not an easy task for the novice user.

A better option would be to use a different piece of hardware, or use a different livecd.

Mandrake Move supposedly supports your modem out-of-the box, so I would start there.

umm, dunno if this is a dumb question, but i dont see why i could only do that on a hard drive install

although, i dont have a clue how to compile somthing, i could give it a try, got any links to tutorials and the "development stuff"?

and im guessing that as DSL is based on knoppix that doesnt support my modem out of the box either right?
