Depending on what dependencies the program has (uhhh...don't read that again, please), you may be able to compile it using gcc1.dsl or gcc1-with-libs.dsl.
If it is a source package, it should include a file called README or INSTALL or something similar. This file should give you the info you need that is specific to the program. If you're looking for general information on compiling applications, you would be better off with a web search.
In any case, what kerry suggested is much simpler.
