well i never really could figure out how to get my old libfreetype file back, so i tried something elese. i put woody unstable into my source.list file. i had noted that openoffice was not in the sable woody so what the heck, i'll give it a try. downloaded something like 60 packages. when i start open office from the bash shell error messages start saying things like "an error occurred while copying the file ooo654writer.desktop to /home/damnsmall/.gnome2.vfolders/applications an error occurred while copying a file" but it does start up and run. i think i've reached the point of "do over", think its best to do a fresh hd-install from dsl then install openoffice first, i believe i'll have far less problems installing OO. also i really didn't want to install mozilla, i wanted to install firebird (smaller faster) i think mozilla is were this problem began. after i reload dsl on the harddisk and after i install openoffice i will be looking for where to download firebird, it doesnt seem to be in woody stable either. the following is a list of programs that i have to have: tn5250 firebird samba openoffice
thanks for the help, will be asking again "how to" as soon i reload.
