I've done a frugal install and I need a specific "cheat code" passed to DSL every time it boots, but of course, menu.lst is read-only. I've been getting a little tired of doing the edit when the GRUB menu pops up EVERY TIME I boot.

Is there anything I can do about this?

frugal install means as root edit the menu.lst at

/cdrom/boot/grub/menu.lst

If you booted frugal with the toram option then mount the device, say it is hda2 then edit

/mnt/hda2/boot/grub/menu.lst

For frugal installs it is not the one located at /boot/grub/menu.lst
