Hi I'm a linux newbie and this is my first time trying to install DSL on an older PC. Pentium 100 with 48MB ram and 1GB harddrive. The cd rom drive is an IMES ICD-1200AT VC8V, Firmware version A01. When booting floopy for install without CD rom drive installed the boot process cannot find files, OK. However when I reconnect the cd rom drive I get an OOPS, as follows
Code Sample | booting the kernel oops: 0000 cpu: 0 eip: 0010:[<00000000>] Not tainted eflags:00010282 eax: 00000000 ebx: 00000003 ecx: 00000cf8 edx: 00000000 esi: c035963c edi: c035958c ebp: 00000001 esp: c10adf08 ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018 process swapper (pid: 1, stackpage=c10ad000) stack: c01ccc56 c035963c 00000003 00000003 c035963c 00000001 c024f9af 01860258 00000001 0b5a0078 c01c961d c035963c 0000000b c035963c c035958c 00000001 c01c98a3 c035963c 0000000f c01d6608 c035963c 000000ff c03598cc 00000002 call trace: [<c01ccc56>] [<c024f9af>] [<c01c961d>] [<c01c98a3>] [<c01d6608>] [<c01d67ae>] [<c01d7111>] [<c01050ad>] [<c0107114>] code: bad eip value <0>Kernel panic: attempted to kill init! |
Obviously this has something to do with the cd rom drive but what I do not know. Anybody know whats going on and is the situation salvageble. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me
