Hi there,

I'm looking to partition my server HDD. On my other dual boot machine (eg running win98se and mandrake 9.2) I have needed a 50MB /boot partition before the first 1024 bytes/sectors? on the HDD.

If were to partition my 20GB drive as below, would I still need this /boot partition at the beginning of the drive? ???

Part1: Win2K (NTFS ~1GB)
Part2: Files to be shared (NTFS ~18GB)
Part3: DSL HD install (~1GB)

Any suggestions welcome. :)

make the shared partition FAT32.

NTFS support on linux is flakey. writing to ntfs = loss of data about 45% of the time.

blame M$ for not releasing the specs for ntfs and making people reverse engineer it.

peace!

Thanks for the heads up, I was half thinking of that.

But still do I need a /boot partition at the beginning of the drive for DSL????

no. all you need is a / and swap if your system supports LBA (large block addressing)

Its for my miniPC (see my topic on the user feedback board), so that should have LBA. But will have to wait till after exams :(

Cheers for the advice :)
