I have just installed DSL.

I cannot get either the pci or an external modem to dial-up.

I have checked every com port.

Any help would be great...Thanks...R.

I just posted wvdial.dsl - this program is usually quite good at discovering and configuring modems, you could try that.

It would help to post what you have tried.
If you have the modem in a standard port you may
want to try:

From the menu Apps -> Net -> Microcom

Basically, I followed the procedure for connecting to the internet that is found in the help menu.

System>>net setup>>dialup ppp config>>ppp config utility.

I then set up the various properties for my isp and tried every port.

The bios is set with the serial port enabled,2f8l,irq 3.

part of the screen shot that comes up when I try to dial contains...
"can't get terminal parameters  input/output error"
"missing kernal or user mod driver"
"Connect script failed"

I can copy out the entire message if that would be more helpful.

Thanks for any help.

Note...I am running Ubuntu on another machine,  but this is a older box that has only a 5 gb harddisk that I am giving to a friend that does not know how to turn on a computer.  So I want it to be stable and fully up and running when I give it to him....Thanks...R.

Does Microcom find your port?
Using Microcom can you issue the old Hayes standard AT command and get an OK ?

Did you say no to auto configure in the ppp config script and type in your serial port as shown in the example?

Did you select "Finished - Write files ... " before exiting the script?

If you open a shell what does

ls -l /dev/modem

display?
