We have a sticky at the top listing wireless cards that work with little or no configuration. How about taking a step further - what wireless cards work on DSL with absolutely no configuration?

The DSL wireless challenge :

Is there any Wireless Card (preferably USB, reasonably priced and readily available) that works straight out of the box? By that I mean: plug in card, boot DSL, click on DSL panel, click on iwconfig (or other button), enter SSID and WEP, click on Firefox, browse web. Any use of konsole mode is forbidden, any previous knowledge of Linux may not be used, you must be able to teach your grandmother to do it in less than 5 minutes!

Even better, for the DSL team: Boot DSL, wireless networks in range appear automatically, click connect, enter WEP if required, click on Firefox, browse web.

This is prompted by me having spent several hours trying to get wireless networking up & running without success on a number of systems. Yes, I'm new, no, I don't know Linux well, but what I see I like, and what I see in DSL I like even more. Most Linux distributions seem to have the same problem with wireless - I eventually figured out how to get Knoppix 10 working on a couple of Intel Centrino laptops, but it still didn't meet my objectives above.

Most NIC cards / ethernet connections work out of the box on any Linux distribution, including DSL, but everything is going wireless - who runs LAN cables around now? It's got to work on wireless! OK - it's difficult with hundreds of cards & chipsets & incompatible drivers - that's why I say pick just one, reasonably priced and readily available!

Any takers? :;):

All of this is covered in the sticky and in the wiki.

They say if you play a Microsoft CD backwards, you hear satanic messages. That's nothing, cause if you play it forwards, it installs Windows.
