I am trying to run a web server on a libretto 50 using DSL.
I have done a frugal install on a CF (128MB), and was thinking about putting the web contents and /var/log on a NFS mount (because of access frequency etc).

Has any one tried this kind of CF configuration? and if so, I would appreciate any pointers especially, regarding access speed (BTW I am using a 10/100 NW via pcmcia) and partitioning.  I know it is generally not recomended (or so I think I read in a netbsd forum once...), but any ideas on running a silient server would be appreciated also.

Thanks for your help

Firstly, I'd like to congratulate you on putting DSL on your Libretto 50CT, I haven't got my 70CT anymore :(

As you may (or not) know DSL comes with a little webserver called 'Monkey'. This resides in the /opt/monkey-0.8.2 folder. You can put your docs in the htdocs folder, then enable/disable the server using the dektop menu or the DSLpanel. I believe you can use the program with PHP and cgi scripts.

AS for the CF card, haven't used them myself, but if the machine is just serving and your running DSL in RAM, then your should only be reading the card. Theres plenty of posts in the forums if you do some searching.

HTH and goodluck!

Thanks,
Cool Screen name btw : )

I think I will use Monkey, because all of my contents are obviously interchangeable. But in the mean time, I guess I will try remastering dsl to remove Sound, X and other gui apps, so it is just left with ftpd, ssh, nfs client and the webserver (in addition to the pcmcia and other kernel stuff).

I should have the pros and cons of nfs mounting a content directory sorted out by then

I will try to post something if and when I do succeed!
BTW, dsl has completely revived two old pre-mmx pentium pcs. great distro! :D
