Pentium-90 with 40 MB RAM is also running well with gui - at least with dillo as a browser. While firefox does work as well, it's (subjectively) a lot less fun.

My 266mhz AMD with 126mb RAM won't boot because I get a damn "can't find KNOPPIX filesystem error", though the same disk works fine in my other two machines.

Might be a bad CDROM

You might have to end up pulling the drive out and putting it on a 2.5" -> 3.5" adapter and installing that way (incidentally..this is the most quick and painless method if you dont have a floppy or working CDROM)

Hmmmmm strange thing I've noticed ... I rebooted my DSL box immediately before going to work this morning and the status bars indicated that I had 75% of my 64Mb Ram available. I've just got home and looked at it again and without anything being done on the machine at all since booting I now only have 21% left!

Where has my memory gone?

(who am I and what am I doing here? I forget ... ;) )

Don't worry, it's probably just cache using memory. When you really need the memory the unused stuff is cleared and you won't notice the difference.

Or ofcourse there could be a program with a memory leak...
