I've been using Linux for the past three months. Never coded anything since my forays with Basic on an old DOS machine ten years ago, and I've only used Windows XP for the past two. Now I can fix broken code, compile programs and all that snazzy stuff.
Linux does take some work, but it really depends on what you want it for. If you're looking for a system to work similar to Windows then Ubuntu, Knoppix, Damn Small and a few others are all very easy to learn and use. The only reason I've had to do so much work is because of my wireless card. It works fine in DSL but is impossible to configure with any other distro.
