Now that I've loaded the DSL to the hard drive, do I need to
reload while online? or just get online with it somehow? Is there a
tool to change microsoft doc files to ....anything. What about HTML?
My files are saved, sure, but now I'd like to make a bigger shift -
to maybe all Linux... (arg! Old hardware.)

You can open M$ doc files with Abiword, or OpenOffice.org.

We have a few wysiwyg html editors in the repository, but I haven't used them personally.

As for "getting online", if you have a broadband connection, you should already be online. Especially if the connection hooks into a router, etc.

If dialup....  Well, let's hope you aren't using dialup. Winmodems suck.

Oh, I hate that word. Clean up your language!
Never use "win" in front of "modem"! They took all the guts out and made
the CPU do the work. THAT IS NOT A MODEM... It's that other word.
FYI:
I have DSL burned on a mini CD. I can carry it in my pocket. I have access
to broadband, but I work off-line usually.

^_^ woman after my own heart. (forgive the phrase, if you need to)

I have been known to scream at people that they don't have modem when they complain to me that their "modemz" don't work.

They aren't hardware! THEY'RE SOFTWARE IN DISGUISE!!!

Anyways, DSL has a DHCP client, so if your netework supports dhcp, you are connected as soon as it's booted.

If it doesn't support dhcp, you can use the netcardconfig util in the control panel to set up the net connection manually. Easy.
