DSL hangs during startup for me.  I've tried everything I can think of, so I thought maybe someone here could suggest something.

I am running an hp pavilion laptop.  I downloaded the DSL iso, burned it to a CD, and booted to the CD.  I have tried all of the following at the DSL boot menu:

1.  <enter> -or- expert
If I just press <enter> or type expert, I get the following:

Loading Linux24................
Loading minirt24.gz.............
<screen goes blank and never comes back>

2.  dsl vga=normal
This gives me:

Loading Linux24................
Loading minirt24.gz.............
Ready.
Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
<screen hangs and doesn't recover>

3.  failsafe
When I type failsafe, I get a list of system properties that scrolls too quickly to read, and which stops on this line:

ACPI: IRQ9 SCI: Level Trigger.
<screen hangs and doesn't recover>

I also tried several other boot parameters, including runlevel 2 and various screen resolutions.  I don't remember the results from each option, but I know each variation resulted in one of the three outputs listed above.

I just read a couple of messages that suggest acpi=off and noacpi.  I'll reboot and try those, but if you think of anything else, I'd appreciate any help.

FYI, the acpi=off option fixed my problem.  Now on to networking...

Thank you!  I had the same problem on my ze4600 pavillion laptop.  Boots fine
now with acpi=off.

Also, works on my ze4560us. My questions is what exactly does this change with acpi being off? I read what acpi is, but not completely sure I understand what it does.
