Edit: title wrong, should say "nVidia GeForce FX5200 graphics"

When I boot DSL, as soon as the X server starts my desktop PC (with integrated Nvidia graphics) hangs. The messages displayed just before the hang are so fast I can't read them.

I have tried various combinations of vga resolution/depth(including normal) and both Xvesa and fluxbox. When Xvesa hangs, it displays a blank screen. When fluxbox hangs, it displays a light grey screen with a jagged vibrating thick dark grey vertical bar in the center. Freaky. In both cases I have no cursor and CTRL-C/D/Z doesn't work. I have to use the reset button to get out.

I don't have this problem with Knoppix or if I don't run the x server (dsl 2). Do I need to use a Knoppix XFree86 file? How do I incorporate the changed/added files into the DSL image?

-Thanks! LloydM

Have you tried using fb from boottime?  ie., at the dsl prompt, type in "fb1024x768" or "fb800x600".  This works on my FX5200, I know I had a heap of troubles and tried what I thought was every combination of options, but "fb1024x768" at boottime worked fine.

Depending on your monitor, I could maybe send you a copy of my XF86Config-4 file etc., if your setup's a standardish CRT it should (maybe) work OK.
You'd just need to put the XFree86.dsl, nvidia.dsl, and (my) nvidia-configs.tar.gz in the root of a MyDSL iso to get it all loaded up by default.

But yeah, "fb1024x768" or "fb800x600" at boottime may (should?) work.

It is important that you type in:

fb800x600

at the boot prompt, and NOT

dsl fb800x600

I changed the xmodule parameter to xfbdev for my default boot in the config file.

I thought setting the res and Xfbdev in xsetup would've done the same thing, but that didn't work.
