Yes, but i couldn't say how.  In one of my DSL setups I have a different cursor accidentally =o)  ...it was the result of using the xset command, but is not directly related to cursors, so i dunno why it happened.

I hear you can change the cursor with the xsetroot command as well, but i also don't know how to do that. You might be able to set up a set of cursors in ~/.icons to use with Xfree86, but haven't tested that yet.
