What type of remaster are we taking about....mkmydsl iso, or a remaster of KNOPPIX?
Any files in particular that you're having trouble with?
In a KNOPPIX remaster, personal configs should be put in /etc/skel. From there they will be copied into /home/dsl and ownership will automatically be changed to dsl during boot. The files in /etc/skel should at least be chmod 600 in order to be read and written by dsl, 700 to be exectuted and for directories. The "00" prevents any permission by other users or groups (except root), so you might want to learn a bit about chmod and chown to get permissions exactly how you want them. Typically a regular file is 644 and executables/directories are 755 to allow read-only access by others.
In a mkmydsl remaster, I couldn't tell you what the permissions of the source files are, since they could come from anywhere...if they come from Windows, then the file permissions/ownerships are probably seriously screwed up. In any case, files added to a mkmydsl cd should be owned by root, and the permissions should be set as mentioned above (depends on what files they are). Again, i suggest you learn about chmod and chown so you can set the files as you need them....these commands will be very useful for many things beyond just remastering.
