I found the desktop menu tools for downloading the upgrade to GNU utilities and downloading the MyDSL extensions.  But I'm not sure where to go from here.

Where should I be saving the files to?  The default directory isn't cutting it, because the files don't survive reboots here.

Once I do save the files to the appropriate place, how do I install the GNU utilities and the MyDSL extensions?

Ah, guess the mydsl page for autobooting hasn't been updated yet... you could always check the notes page for the most recent changes.  (but maybe / still works?) Namely this:
Quote
* Simplified MyDSL structure using the level 1 default autoscanned /mydsl directory or user specified level one directory which contains extensions, and optionally the 'optional' subdirectory and/or a 'modules' subdirectory. Dropped now unneeded 'modules' boot time option and support for extensions at level 1.

In other words, you'll probably want to save them in /cdrom/mydsl/...
If you have another location you want to save them in, look up the mydsl= cheatcode

I'd like to save the GNU Utilities and MyDSL to the hard drive, not a CD.  For GNU Utilities and MyDSL, what is the appropriate directory to save to?

/cdrom is not a CD. It is the directory where DSL is installed (the KNOPPIX and boot files). I assume it is /cdrom because it is a simulated cdrom.

Which partition of a frugal install contains /cdrom?  Is /cdrom in the storage partition?  (I have 3 partitions - hda1 is the 55 MB partition with the DSL image, hda2 is the swap drive, and hda3 is the storage partition that takes up most of the hard drive.)
