Hey i was wondering if it was possible to install the NVIDIA 3d accelerator drivers from the NVidia website. Also, the Nvidia requires a kernel-source, how do i install the kernel-source, and where do i get the kernel-source from? I also noticed that i cant get "make" to install, due to some error i get with Coreutils. But if i could get the Nvidia Drivers installed, that would be wonderful. Thanks

Nope, the NVidia drivers require XFree86, or Xorg GUI system...
DSL uses the lightweight Kdrive/Freedrive xservers for GUI...

As far as the kernel sources go , they are avaliable from the
3.3 knoppix CD, release dated 9/24/2003...

For the development utilities...
Search the forums for gcc, g++, and make.
Lots of threads on that topic..

Tough to pack all that on a 50 meg CD, and have room for an OS...

There have been some discussions on using apt-get to install Xfree86...
For now, I have not heard of a successful install..
By the time you add the XFree/Xorg, and the supporting files, your
right back to a standard knoppix/morphix/debian environment..

I'm currently working on an extension for Feather which you can burn on the CD as an extra and it will load X.org - if I'm successful (wondering how likely...), then I'll be sure to share it.

Is there any type of OpenGL of some sort that will work in DSL? or is that not possible? Im a Quake 3 gamer, and i would love to be able to do this on Damn Small Linux. Thanks

I Use a Nvidia Geforce MX 420 64mb

Even if there was a "GL" you could install to work with the Kdrive xservers,
Quake3 would run  s o    s  l  o  w   without the accel'd graphics . . . . .

Quake and Quake2 DO run nicely in the svgalib package...

There are plenty of distros out there that are small, and DO include
the XF86 or X.Org servers... Have you tried those ?

Just the XF86 or X.Org alone are larger than this entire distro..
Basically at that point , you have a debian distro with small light apps...

Seems it would be easier to start with the debian base, and add the
apps you wanted to it, rather than re-engineer DSL to work with XF86...
