i had run "mkliloboot" after "dsl-hdinstall" on /dev/hdb2

this is the result of mkliloboot

root@ttyp0[root]# mkliloboot
Enter root partition: /dev/hdb2
/dev/root on / type ext2 (rw)
/dev/scd0 on /cdrom type iso9660 (ro)
/dev/cloop on /KNOPPIX type iso9660 (ro)
/ramdisk on /ramdisk type tmpfs (rw,size=44900k)
/proc/bus/usb on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw,devmode=0666)
/dev/hdb2 on /mnt/hd type ext2 (rw)
Setting up boot loader (LILO) into the master boot record..
part: /dev/hda1, typ: 12
Warning: /etc/lilo.conf should be writable only for root
Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not exist, disk scan bypassed
Warning: /dev/hdb is not on the first disk
Added Linux *
Skipping /vmlinuz.old
Added Windows(hda1)
}The lilo boot installation process is finished.
You must reboot to continue the final stage of the hard drive install.
Reboot now? (y/...):

but on reboot lilo doest start!
the sistem run windows ME automactly
running again DLS on CD
i "mount /dev/hdb2 /mnt/hdb2" and running /mnt/hdb2/sbin/lilo there is a error, the result is:
Unrecognized token "! Please edit /etc/lilo.conf before running lilo!" at or above line 6 in file '/etc/lilo.conf'

My partions are these :

Device Boot    Start       End    Blocks   Id  System
/dev/hdb1               1          25      200781   82  Linux swap
/dev/hdb2              26          87      498015   83  Linux

Device Boot    Start       End    Blocks   Id  System
/dev/hda1   *           1         635     2560288+   c  Win95 FAT32 (LBA)

any problem with them to run "dsl-hdinstall" with these configuration?

help a newbie please?any clues?

xcoil!

I have had similar problems installing DSL to hd. It didn't work if I had two windows-partitions for example. And I have only one harddrive. So I think that it will not work making a hd-install on a slightly complicated setup. For now I have DSL installed on hda3. After deleting my second windows-partition I could install DSL to my harddrive. I think that DSL hd-install has to be seen as a little bit experimental for now.

Keep on having fun,
meo

xcoil,
i suggest you to visit TOMSRTBT page: www.toms.net/rb/
download tomsrtbt, make a floppy install, boot it from floppy.
Log as root, xxxx. Make a dir for mounting your root part:
mkdir /mnt/hd1
Mount your root partition:
mount /dev/hdb2 /mnt/hdb2
Now run lilo as from your linux installation:
chroot /mnt/hd1 /sbin/lilo
This should repair your lilo, or at least it will bring up some news about your install.
Good luck:)
