Jpeters..just for your info...I've started (again!) from scratch today. booted up dsl 3.3. Went to old repository ( second line down in sources.list ). Got fluidsynth. Got muse. So far so good!
I have found in Muse:
1) It seems to hang although music keeps playing. Then you have to kill the program. A real shame  2) I haven't imported a wav yet. Can't be sure if it's working with Alsa ( Alsa is selected in Muse but I'm not sure what's working).
Thanks for showing us that ti p above - you are more advanced than me! If you make any more progress please let us know. You are welcome to try to get fluidsynth working in Muse!
