Part 1:
I have downloaded gtk2.dsl and gnu-utils.dsl .... what now??? :(  I am running dsl from the live cd with boot options mdsl=hda1 restore=hda1 .  I tried placing them in my optional folder,  which makes them show up in mydsl install optional extentions.  Is that correct? Please see Part 2 for why I believe it's not.

Part2:
I believe the answers to part 2 will be solved by the answer to part 1.
The following are a list of .dsl extensions that I cant get to work:
gnupod,  gtkpod,  gtkpod-gtk2-0.72,  abiword (loads and runs fine except for when I try to open a .doc,  only ??????? comes up in place of the text).

I have searched the forms for hours and have not found any answers.

Thanx in advance!   :D

placing them in /optional gives you quick access to install them via the menu, but it does not install them.  You still need to click on the file in the menu in order to install the extension.  If you want them installed automatically they need to be placed in the root of hda1 (or whatever you decide to use for "mydsl=")

I understand about clicking on the files in the mydsl "Install optional extension" menu to install them (which I have done).  Even after doing so,  Part2 of my problem (listed above)  is still in effect.  The apps listed don't work.  Any suggestions?

New question:  so If I place the gtk2.dsl and the gnu-utils.dsl ANYWHERE on my "mydsl="  it will automatically load?

New answer: No.  It has to be placed in the root of that partition in order to be loaded automatically.

I've never used gtk2 in DSL so i don't know from experience, but you may want to read the info files of the extensions that don't work, and also the info file for gtk2.dsl.  Maybe you need to do something special to get them to run.

I read the info files (the info files from the repository) and there is nothing much there.  Thanx for your help.

To clarify:
On mydsl=hda1 I don't have any files except for optional (where my .dsl extensions are)  and the backup.tar.gz  .  If i create a folder on Hda1 and name it root,  then place .gnu-utils and .gtk2 files in there will that work????  Or must I use the mydsl cd remaster?
