Over a year ago I had an 80 GB hard drive go out, and being mean and stingy, I decided to go the route of live cd distros. I replaced the hard drive on one box with a small 500 MB one, almost given away nowadays. Put MSDOS and Arachne 1.70 on it, and that keeps the motherboard happy as I boot DSL daily on that box, from the CDROM drive, a 50X, also fairly cheap. Then I came into a 2.5 GB hard drive that no one could get to boot Windows anymore, so I put SuSE 6.3 on it, installed it as slave and use a msdos menu on the little 500 MB drive to boot it via loadlin. Still love to run DSL, however, it's better. --- People won't need much in the way of a hard drive when Microsoft finally gets sunk by security problems. Dell's selling boxes that can use 3 GB ram now, so the whole thing can run in ram, and have almost 99% left over! (Don't ask me where I get my figures). ---
