First , to eliminate any possibility of corruption or bad backup data...
Restart your system from LiveCD, using the this bootup command:
dsl norestore
This will startup your system with no extensions or backups.
Verify you are able to access ibiblio by opening up a browser, and access the repository.. sometimes ibiblio is frozen or down. http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/
Then give the myDSL a try.. If it works, and it should, great.. Begin to add back in your additional extensions and files. Start with your backup.. Reboot and bootup with :
dsl restore=hd(xx) = wherever your backup is.
Attempt to use the mydsl again... see if it works..
Do the same thing with your extensions, one at a time. Until you find a culprit.. ( lather, rinse, repeat )
If this is a HDinstall.. well....start from scratch, I guess.. Test myDSLgui at each crossroad before and after installing new items, until you find an issue.. I'm confident myDSLgui is not broken, so the cause is local ..
Let us know..
